Melrose, WI (WXOW) -
Wisconsin Congressman Ron Kind and U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman tour a farm Monday which exports dairy products.
Farm owner Byron Krueger of Melrose has been farming since he was ten years old. Today Krueger owns about 500 cows.
Krueger says exporting dairy products help Wisconsin farmers, like himself, to employ a large number of workers.
According to the United States Department of Agriculture - National Agricultural Statistics Service, the average price of dairy milk in Wisconsin as of July, 2014 is $23.50 per hundredweight. This is up $0.20 from June, 2014.
Krueger attributes the rise in dairy milk to developments in trade and exporting goods, keeping the demand for milk high.
"We have really good milk prices now," says Krueger, "We need them to survive."
