The La Crosse man accused of delivering heroin that led to another man's overdose death was released on a $10,000 signature bond Wednesday.
According to the Trempealeau County District Attorney's Office, 27-year-old Jered Hellerud delivered heroin to Robert Gordon of Trempealeau. Gordon was pronounced dead on August 17, 2013 from a drug overdose.
Hellerud is facing the class C felony charge of first degree reckless homicide, punishable by a $100,000 fine or up to 40 years in prison, or both. Since Hellerud is a repeat offender, he could face two extra years in prison.
At a court hearing Wednesday, Judge Elliot Levine also ordered Hellerud to have no contact with the victim's family.
The preliminary hearing is set for August 25.
