Chippewa Falls, WI (WXOW) - Grocery shoppers will notice changes in the name of several area stores as a northern Wisconsin chain expands.

Friday morning, Chippewa Falls-based Gordy's County Market announced that it is purchasing Our Town Fresh Markets from the Hegenbarth Food Group in La Crosse, Arcadia, and Galesville. The La Crosse store is located at 1607 George Street.

According to a company statement, Gordy's begins running the stores starting October 20.

The statement said that the company will retain all current employees when they take over.

In the statement, Dave Hegenbarth, Our Town Fresh Markets owner, commented, “We are filled with a mix of emotions today. We are pleased to be selling to the Schafer's and Gordy's County Market because they are family owned and they take care of their employees, customers, and communities; standards that we value and take pride in. We know Gordy's will bring a renewed energy and passion to these stores that will benefit everyone.”

With the purchase, Gordy's now owns 16 grocery stores in western Wisconsin.

President of Gordy's County Market Jeff Schafer said, "We are thrilled about this exciting opportunity to expand into these new locations and the surrounding communities. Going from 13 to 16 stores in a matter of months is a challenge, but it excites us to bring our philosophy and culture to Galesville, Arcadia, and La Crosse; 3 terrific communities. Ultimately, this is a reflection on our current employees and how hard they work, without them this growth would not be possible.”

The company also operates eight Gordy's Express gas stations.
