Carlson takes point lead into final weekend of Late Model season

West Salem, WI (WXOW) -

After a couple crazy weeks on the track, Steve Carlson will still have a great chance to win a fourth Late Model championship at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway.

He'll have to wait until Oktoberfest weekend to do it, but a fifth feature victory on Saturday night certainly helped his chances of taking home the trophy for the second-straight season.

Last weekend, Carlson was involved in a crash, totaled his car, and saw his comfortable points lead over Brad Powell shrink to just 19.

That was last week. Following his feature race win Saturday, the driver of car No. 66 now has a 33 point lead over Powell with just one day of racing remaining.

Mike Carlson sits third in the standings with 651 points, Mike Koeneke fourth with 662 points, and Harley Jankowski and Cole Howland share fifth place with 618 points.
