BELOIT (WKOW) -- Officers with the Beloit Police Department were sent to the lobby of their department to speak with an individual around 1:30 Monday morning. That person was turning himself in for a crime he committed.
Officers went to the lobby and spoke with 30-year-old Peter Hemmy, who stated his father was dead inside their home in the 2200 block of Sunshine Lane. Hemmy implicated himself in the death.
"The officer interviewed him. The individual reported to the officer that his father was dead at their home," Beloit Police Captain Dan Risse says.
Officers then went to the residence and found 58-year-old Bruce Hemmy inside the residence. Beloit Fire responded to the scene as well, and the Rock County Coroner's Office pronounced him dead at the scene.
Beloit police are investigating his death as a homicide. The cause or manner of Hemmy's death is not being released at this time, however, Captain Risse states no firearm was involved.
"This is not a firearms related crime. There obviously had to be some unhappy dynamics going on in the family that resulted in the son doing what he did to his father," Risse says.
Peter Hemmy has been arrested for 1st degree intentional homicide and is being held at the Rock County Jail. There is no ongoing danger to the community.
The department is investigating the death as a homicide. Department evidence technicians and detectives are working on the investigation at this time.
