La Crosse, WI (WXOW) -
The school year is officially underway. Kids on La Crosse's Northside started the year at a brand new school.
The school district broke ground on the new Northside elementary school less than one year ago. Superintendent Randy Nelson is proud to say the project stayed on time and budget.
The new building replaced Franklin and Roosevelt elementary schools bringing 450 students together under one roof. Those kids and their teachers kicked off the school year with a special flag raising ceremony. The new Northside school has it's own flag and school song.
The kids and teachers we spoke with say the new building is everything they had hoped for and more. They really liked the open space in classrooms, the cafeteria, and multipurpose rooms.
Staff members said they also enjoy all the extra light. There is at least one natural light source in every room, including the gymnasium.
