UPDATE: Authorities identify man arrested after home invasion, shooting south of Osseo
Osseo, WI (WQOW) - -
Trempealeau County authorities have a Portage man in custody on an attempted homicide charge after a home invasion and shooting at a rural Osseo home Thursday afternoon.
In a release, 52-year-old William Ledford is in the Trempealeau County Jail in Whitehall on one count of first degree intentional homicide, armed robbery, burglary, and possession of a stolen vehicle. The release said that Ledford is also on parole.
Shortly after noon Thursday, resident Wendy Hageness called 911 to report an unwelcome man at her home. The man, later identified as Ledford, wasn't aware she was there. He is also a relative of Hageness.
A few minutes later, before officers could reach the home, her husband, Jon Hageness, arrived. Wendy Hageness said that Ledford pulled a handgun on her husband and forced him inside the home.
Gunshots were heard moments later by Wendy Hageness and arriving law enforcement. Ledford then left the house only to be confronted by officers. He was arrested without incident.
Inside the home, officers found Jon Hageness with a gunshot wound to the back. He was taken by Osseo Area Ambulance to an area hospital. His condition wasn't released.
Investigators determined that several shots were fired inside the home during the incident. They also discovered that the vehicle Ledford used to get to the home was reported stolen from the Wisconsin Dells area.
At last word authorities in Trempealeau County are waiting for a search warrant to enter the home where one man was shot following a home invasion.
The Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department says it happened at a home along County Highway H in the Town of Sumner. That is south of Osseo. Around noon, the sheriff's department received a 911 call from a female who told police there was a male at the residence holding another male at gunpoint. When deputies arrived, they found the female caller and took her to safety.
"During that time they heard what they believed was gunshots. As they were starting to react to the area where they thought they came from, the suspect came out of the residence and the officers took the person into custody without incident," said Sheriff Rich Anderson, Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department.
The man inside the home, who was shot, was taken to the hospital. He is expected to survive. The Trempealeau County sheriff tells us that all three people involved knew each other. At this point, no other details have been provided.
