Trempealeau County (WQOW) - We now know the name of the bow hunter who was accidentally shot in the head in Trempealeau County.

The sheriff's department says the incident happened around 8:00 a.m. Saturday in the Town of Gale.

It says the victim, 55-year-old Patrick Humfeld from Trempealeau, was sitting on the ground, using a tree as a back brace. They say 55-year-old David Devine, from Onalaska, was hunting squirrels with a gun in the area, saw a movement and fired, thinking it was a squirrel.

The sheriff's department says Humfeld was airlifted to a hospital in La Crosse and is in serious, but stable, condition. The incident is still under investigation.

Trempealeau County (WQOW) - A bow hunter is in serious condition after being shot in the head in the Trempealeau County.

The sheriff's department says the incident happened around 8:00 a.m. Saturday in Gale Township, off of Marsh Lane.

It says the victim was sitting on the ground, using a tree as a back brace, when a person who was hunting squirrels with a gun saw movement and fired. The sheriff's office says the hunter thought it was a squirrel. 

The bow hunter was airlifted to Gunderson Hospital in La Crosse and is in serious condition. No names have been released. The incident is still under investigation.
