Eau Claire (WQOW) - Seeing the first snow of the season this soon is sad for some. For others, it's a chance to earn some extra change.
As the first flakes fall it's time for Dan Cripe, the owner of Outdoor Authority, and his son Alex ,to gear up and fix up their equipment.
Dan says, "We're just getting done with leaf pickup which we were doing yesterday, and then this morning we start right in with plowing. So it's typical Wisconsin."
And while the weather maybe typical; Dan says he can't remember a time when he's been out with the plows this early in the month.
"It's great for business, no doubt. We've been doing this since 2003. I just don't remember it starting quite this early in November."
Since the snow was first predicted, there have been a number of tasks to scratch off the check list. Dan says, "Do we have the guys? Do we have the equipment? What's working? What's not? We just ran a few trucks this morning. Later we'll probably have all four out later tonight with, hopefully, quite a bit more snow coming."
And it's not just for the success of his business that Dan welcomes the snow and cold. He says, "Whenever we're not plowing in the winter, we like to get out on the ice, do some fishing. So, I look forward to these months where we can work and yet, have some fun on the side."
Dan says when the snow hits, he and his guys are covering parts of Menomonie, Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire.
