Students with special needs at West Salem Middle School will have additional resources thanks to this month's Tools For Schools award.
Tina Thompson was awarded a $500 check from WXOW, SSE Music, and Brenengen Auto.
Thompson is a special needs teacher at West Salem. She plans to use the award to help buy special stools designed to help children manage their impulses to move during class. "Hokie stools are stools for ADHD or autistic students that they can use. A lot of times they have a lot of extra movement and the need to move and excessive energy so those are the kids that typically rock back in their chair or they're tapping their pencil or they're tapping their legs or their feet and these stools allow them to have that movement in a safe way while still being able to focus and stay in the classroom."
The Tools For Schools Award is given monthly to a deserving teacher or class in the area.
