A donation made by the WXOW Tools for Schools program is matched by the La Crosse Area Autism Foundation (LAF).
In November, WXOW News 19, SSE Music and Brenengen Auto awarded Tina Thompson's middle school class in West Salem $500 dollars. Thompson works with students with special needs. She plans to use the money to help buy Hokie stools designed for autistic students. The special stools allow students to move in their seats and stay focused in the classroom.
After hearing our story, LAF decided to match the donation.
"LAF was started by parents of kids on the Autism Spectrum, when we saw a need in the community to give parents and kids services," said Adam Weissenberger, President and Founding Board Member of LAF. "As the years have passed, so has the need greatly increased for Autism services in and around the La Crosse Area. We believe Tina exemplifies this true passion."
The $500 check from LAF was given to Thompson Wednesday.
WXOW's Tools For Schools Award is given monthly to a deserving teacher or class in the area.
