WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) -- A Wisconsin judge has ruled that one of two girls accused of stabbing a classmate to please a fantasy character known as Slenderman is competent to stand trial.

Prosecutors have charged the girls with attempted first-degree intentional homicide in the attack in Waukesha in May. According to court documents, the girls plotted for months before attacking their friend in a park. All three girls were 12 at the time.

A state psychiatrist found the girl, now 13, fit to stand trial, but her attorney has contested that finding.

Judge Michael Bohren ruled Thursday that the girl is fit to stand trial. The decision sends the case to a preliminary hearing.
