The Badger cheerleaders perform at the pep rally following the Outback Bowl Parade in Ybor City on Dec. 31.
TAMPA, FL (QNI) - -
Although the teams were resting up for the big game Thursday night, that didn't stop Badger and Tiger fans from getting together one last time to cheer for their favorite team.
At the end of the annual Outback Bowl Parade in Tampa Thursday evening, both the bands and cheerleaders for Wisconsin and Auburn, along with a few thousand fans, staged a pep rally.
On the way there, riding the trolley car to the parade and rally, Badger fans young and old shared memories of Madison and how the team should do Thursday. Most are upbeat about the game, though a thread of doubt creeps in to the conversation related to the drubbing Ohio State gave Wisconsin in the Big 10 Championship game.
At the rally, some of that doubt was shared by John Jonscher, Wisconsin Class of '71, who drove up with his wife Ellen, from their home in Estero, south of Ft. Myers, to watch the parade, rally, and the game.
Although still a bit unsure of how Wisconsin could have lost as badly as it did, Jonscher and his wife are Badger fans decked out in their Wisconsin gear. As the band and cheerleaders finished up the song, both Jonscher and his wife yelled right along, “When you say Wisconsin, you've said it all.”
