La Crosse, WI (WXOW) -
Members of area churches and faiths gathered tonight focusing on what they have in common: A desire for world peace.
Rev. Canon Dr. Patrick P. Augustine of the Christ Episcopal Church in down town La Crosse said everyone is invited. "Our world is bleeding and all of us need to raise up prayers," said Rev. Augustine.
On a night like tonight most come to pray but all come to be comforted.
"It settles our hearts even if it doesn't cure peace in the world," said Sister Marie Kyle.
Other prayers are focused on the victims families and for a softening of the heart to those spreading hate.
"It's proven that if you return kindness to someone who is not nice to you it works. That person turns around. I've seen it happen in my own life," said Joyce Sanders.
"I'm 62 now and I don't feel surprised by much anymore and the craziness has been going on for a long time now. It's everywhere. I feel that prayer is the answer," said Stacey Adams who also came to pray.
Reverend Augustine says being accepting of others, especially their religion can change the world. "Maybe La Crosse can be that light on the hill that in our community, in our nation in the world where people of all faiths next time will gather."
