Western Technical College has earned a prestigious higher learning accreditation.
The Higher Learning Commission is a regional accreditation body.
It reviews post-secondary institutions in the North Central region.
Every eight years a school can be re-affirmed.
Western just passed that benchmark.
"The Higher Learning Commission is a very respected group and body. They have been looking harder at institutions and holding them to a higher standard. You're always hoping that you've met that bench mark and it was really good this week to hear that we met it...you know that their infrastructure is strong," Roger Stanford, Vice President of Student Affairs said.
Stanford says the accreditation is important because without it they would no longer be able to offer financial aid, which is used by 80 percent of their students.
