BLOOMING PRAIRIE, Minn. (KTTC) -- The Powerball jackpot is up to $261 million, and the big drawing Wednesday night has created excitement across the region.
The Powerball is traditionally one of America's favorite lottery games, with good reason-- it starts at $40 million, often skyrocketing to hundreds of millions. The money keeps building until there's a winner. And not surprisingly, with the winnings at $261 million, tickets are selling like crazy.
Cashier at Casey's General Store in Blooming Prairie Laura Peterson weighed in on the hype of the game.
"I come in at 5:30 in the morning and it's been brisk. Pretty much everyone will buy a Powerball ticket,” said Peterson.
The game is played nationwide, with the last big winner having come from Washington state back in November. The last winning jackpot amount was $90 million.
With the price of Powerball tickets being only $2 each, many people buy into the thrill, which is also a major part of the Powerball game.
Along with the thrill, comes the "what if" factor, that is, “What would you do with the money if you were to win?”
“Well, I have my foster son in the car, so I'd probably do something spectacular with him,” explained Nancy Thissen, a Powerball player.
Another Powerball player, Glen Bramstedt, said he would use his winnings to help others.
"I would donate something to charity or be Mr. Nice Guy, you know,” said Bramstedt.
No matter who wins and what they do with the money, one thing is for sure, somebody's life might change forever, which is what makes playing Powerball so exciting.
The $261 million Powerball drawing will be at approximately 9:59 p.m. Wednesday.
