Town of Leon (WXOW) - -
The Monroe County Sheriff is reporting an armed robbery in the Township of Leon early Sunday morning.
According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, at approximately 3:00 a.m. at the Leon Country Tavern, a lone male suspect brandished a semi-automatic pistol to a female who was closing up the tavern for the night.
The woman reported to the Sheriff that she had opened the door to the tavern, and she was accosted by the suspect while she was heading outside to start her vehicle. The man then forced his way into the tavern, demanding cash from the register and the safe. After he received the money, the man fled on foot to a waiting vehicle on one of the side streets and left the area.
Monroe County Sheriff's Department describes the man as a white male, approximately 5 feet, 6 inches tall with a "stocky build" and dark hair. The man was last seen wearing a hooded sweatshirt and mask, and he was in possession of a black bag with a Milwaukee Brewers logo on it.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said the matter is still under investigation. The Sheriff's Department is asking for the public's assistance, and any person with information on the male suspect can call the Sheriff's Office at (608) 269-2117, or call the Monroe County Crime Stoppers at (608) 269-7867 or (608) 372-7867.
