Construction crews are hard at work transforming the old Ross Furniture building into the new Charmant Hotel.
It's just one of at least three and possibly four major projects in various stages of development downtown.
The Hampton Inn, Fairfield Inn and the Lot C project are also in the works.
"2015 is going to be a real banner year for La Crosse construction," Bob Seaquist, La Crosse's 8th District City Council member said.
Amy Peterson, the city's Planning & Economic Development Administrator agreed. She said after the economic downturn La Crosse is starting to see an increase in development projects, specifically this year.
"We've spent the last couple of years in the recession and we are just starting to recover," Seaquist said.
The new developments could be part of that recovery.
New facilities means job growth.
"The Charmant I think is about 75 positions and when completed Lot C would be about 500 jobs," Peterson said.
Seaquist said bringing in jobs and the new developments will make La Crosse an even more desirable place to live and work. "A community can't just be static. This kind of growth and modernization is just really healthy," Seaquist said.
The Charmant Hotel is expected to open sometime this summer.
