Police arrest suspect in Onalaska Credit Union robbery

Onalaska, WI (WXOW) - Police arrest a man in connection with the Onalaska Community Credit Union robbery Friday morning.

Onalaska Police were called the credit union at 943 12th Avenue South shortly after 9 a.m., Friday for a report of a robbery.  Witnesses said the man entered the building, demanded money and left with cash.  He was seen leaving the area in a maroon GMC truck with a red plow on the front. 

A short time after the robbery, a La Crosse Police officers found the truck abandoned near the Kwik-Trip Corporate office on Oak Street in the Industrial Park area.  The officer also found foot prints leading away from the vehicle onto the railroad tracks heading into La Crosse. 

Holmen Police Officer Terry Kind and his K-9 Ori helped track the suspect towards La Crosse.

Officers with the La Crosse Police Department searched several locations trying to find the suspect. Investigations Sergeant Andy Dittman and Investigator Ryan Fitzgerald, while looking in the Bridgeview Plaza area, found the suspect in the Coney Island restaurant. The suspect was then arrested.

The name of the suspect isn't being released at this time.

Police said the suspect's truck had been stolen out of Eden, WI. 

Onalaska Chief of Police Jeff Trotnic said this case is a perfect example of how a total collaboration between citizens and the police pays off in a huge way. He said in a statement that the search began with a good description of the suspect and his vehicle. Trotnic said then the case came together with solid police work by multiple agencies culminating with the arrest of the suspect.

UPDATE:  Onalaska Police are looking for a suspect involved in a robbery at the Community Credit Union in Onalaska. 

Onalaska Police Chief Jeff Trotnic said officers were called to the credit union shortly after 9 a.m., Friday for a report of a robbery.  Trotnic said the male suspect demanded money and left with cash.  He left in a maroon GMC truck with a red plow on the front. 

The suspect is described as a white male, with a beard and a scar above his left eye.  He's 20-30 years old, 5'7"-5'9" tall  Police said he was last seen wearing a dark plaid jacket with a hood and dark jeans.

If you see this suspect call police.

No one was injured in the robbery.  The credit union will be closed for the rest of the day.

Police are investigating a robbery that happened this morning at the Community Credit Union in Onalaska.
