The Caledonia boys basketball team secured a trip to the MSHSL State Tournament with a 58-52 win over Rochester Lourdes Thursday night in the Class 1AA championship in Rochester.
It was a close game throughout with Lourdes leading for much of the game.
Caledonia made their run though.
Owen King hit a three to give the Warriors a 40-49 lead.
Later, Kyle Sorenson scored to make it a 49-44 Caledonia lead and the Warriors were able to close it out from there.
"It's awesome for these guys. All year we had a target on our back. Rochester Lourdes played a tough game. We hit some tough shots down the stretch. it was a grinder. They slowed it down on us. We hit shots when it mattered. We're moving on back to back," said head coach Josh Dierson. "It feels great. We may not have played our best game but who cares, we're going to state. It feels good to have back to back. It feels good for Josh (Coach Dierson). His first two. It's going to be fun up there," said Sorenson, who had 10 points.
It's Caledonia's fifth trip to state overall.
They will find out when, where and whom they play in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
