A husband and wife hurt in a crash near Houston have now died from their injuries.
The Minnesota State Patrol said Dale Erickson, 59, and Teresa Erickson, 52, died within days of each other after their vehicle crashed into a ditch on County Road 9 and caught fire on Saturday morning. The two were taken to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse in critical condition after the crash.
A semi-truck driven by Randall Hongerholt, 49, was heading southbound on County Road 9 and the couple was in a GMC pickup truck heading northbound on County Road 9 in Houston.
The semi-truck lost its load of hay bales near County Road 21, and fell onto the Houston couple's vehicle, causing the pickup to crash into a ditch and catch fire.
Teresa Erickson died at Gundersen Health Systems in La Crosse on Sunday. Dale Erickson died from his injuries on Tuesday.
Hongerholt was not hurt in the crash.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, charges are pending following the outcome of an investigation into the crash.
The Minnesota State Patrol reports that a semi truck was southbound on County Road 9 northeast of Houston around 9:15 a.m. As it approached a curve at the intersection of County Road 21, the truck lost its load of hay bales.
Meanwhile, a GMC Sierra was headed the opposite direction on County Road 9 and was hit by one of the bales, causing it to crash into the ditch and catch fire.
The report said 59-year-old Dale Erickson and his wife, 52-year-old Teresa Erickson, were both seriously injured and both taken to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.
The driver of the semi, Randall Hongerholt of Houston, was not injured.
