Senator Tammy Baldwin and Representative Ron Kind are asking President Obama for action to improve rail safety.
In a letter to the White House, Baldwin and Kind cited a missed January 15, 2015 deadline for final rules regarding oil train safety. They ask the administration for immediate action based on recent accidents involving oil train cars.
They offered several suggestions in the letter including speeding up of the phasing in of new CPC-1232 standard tanker cars to replace the older DOT-111 tanker cars, stabilizing oil prior to shipment, and speed limits for trains carrying oil.
