Caledonia routs Maple River, will play for state title on Saturday
Caledonia opened the game on a 19-2 run and never looked back Friday night in the Class AA state semifinals, beating Maple River 74-58 to earn a trip to the state title game on Saturday at the Target Center.
The Warriors shot 48 percent from the field to lead 40-19 at halftime. Owen King hit some timely threes in the first half and Kyle Sorenson scored the game's first five points. King led all scorers with 18 points; Sorenson was right behind with 17 points.
Colton Lampert added 13 points for Caledonia (28-4), who will face Melrose Area in the state title game Saturday at approximately 1 p.m.
The Warriors forced 11 Eagles turnovers, and shot 61 percent from the field in the second half to put the game away relatively early. They also made 17 of 24 free throws.
