Brown Deer took another step towards a second straight Division 3 state title with a semi-final win over Prescott 62-50 Friday morning at the Kohl Center.
Lewrenzo Byers led the Falcons with 16 points. Craig Schimenz had 13, while Taurus Adams II and Zack Baun each contributed 10 points.
Owen Hamilton and Charlie Tayson scored 14 for the Cardinals, who were making their first ever trip to the state tournament.
Brown Deer's defense stepped up as well. The Falcons had ten steals and eight blocks during the game. Turnovers by Prescott led to 18 points for Brown Deer.
They will face Xavier, who won the other Division 3 semi-final Friday morning with a come-from-behind 70-69 win against East Troy.
The Trojans led for most of the game. Xavier however, stayed close, down by only single digits. In the closing moments, a final push by the Hawks put them over the top.
Xavier's leading scorer coming into the game, Sam Burkhart, who was kept quiet most of the game, made his points when it counted at the free throw line. He had 14 on the day. The biggest points came with six seconds left when he hit two free throws to tie, then give Xavier the lead.
East Troy's Will Iloncaie, who poured in 25 points for the Trojans, got the ball on the ensuing play. He drove, but couldn't find an opening to get a shot off before the buzzer sounded.
Xavier's Matt Kinderman added 20 points.
