UW senior, Chris Wirz, 22, has been to Washington D.C. and Kentucky with his experience donating bone marrow to Scott Logdon, 44. Now the Badger and his UK fan marrow recipient will be heading to see their teams face off in the Final Four game in Indianapolis Saturday night. Before hitting the road, Chris was on Wake Up Wisconsin Saturday morning for a live interview.
Back when Chris donated to Scott in 2013, he hoped, as per protocol, he'd get to contact the man who received his marrow the next year, but ended up getting a lot more than he bargained for. He said, "I [hoped] they want to exchange names with me, much less this fun press, all the to-do about the game."
The UW senior recalled when he had the opportunity to meet Scott and his family last summer in Kentucky. "An emotionally overwhelming experience for sure," says Chris. "It worked out in such a good way."
Chris and Scott will be meeting again in Indianapolis Saturday for more press coverage ahead of the Final Four, then they'll both be cheering on their separate teams during the game. "I think we'll still be able to maintain the friendship, no matter what happens," says Chris.
