Durand (WQOW) - -
A Pepin County man was back in court on Tuesday, with dozens of supporters and protesters in the court room.
Kevin Elberg, from Pepin, is accused of attacking Menomonie resident, Sao Lue Vang, when Vang trespassed on his property while squirrel hunting November of 2014. Family members of Vang said they learned last week that a plea bargain had been reached, but they were not satisfied with the terms.
“We were shocked. We want to hold Mr. Elberg accountable for his actions and hopefully we find justice to this because this whole thing has sinked us as a family," Shoua Vang, Sao's daughter, said. "It has torn our whole family. And so, we want to end this. And, we hope the state of Wisconsin will find justice for us."
Over the weekend, the family voiced their displeasure to the judge, who then took the plea hearing off the court calendar for Tuesday. In court, lawyers for both sides told the judge that negotiations are still underway. Elberg is due back in court on May 5.
