Sturgeon spawning begins in Wisconsin

Posted: Updated:
PRINCETON (WKOW) -- The conditions are ideal for sturgeon spawning in Wisconsin.

Biologists with the Department of Natural Resources were catching and tagging the fish along the Fox River in Princeton today.

They say water temperatures are near perfect for spawning and activity should pick up over the next few days.

"I'm anticipating that the fish will be pretty [intensely] spawning this year," says DNR biologist Ryan Koenigs.  "There may be fish spawning all up and down the whole Wolf River simultaneously, so it could be a pretty short run."

Last year, colder temperatures dragged out spawning longer than normal.
