3 area athletes receive major award from WIAA

 Stevens Point, WI (WXOW)  Three area athletes receive the prestigious WIAA Scholar Athlete Award.
    Sparta's John Roddick, Cashton's Betsy Schreier and De Soto's Alex Stevenson will be honored at a ceremony May 3rd in Wausau.
    The award recognizes high achievement in academics and athletics.
    Only 32 seniors across the state are selected, which gives you an idea of just how prestigious it is.

This is from the WIAA: 
More than 800 seniors were nominated for the 2015 WIAA Scholar Athlete Award by more than
400 high schools throughout the state. Since 1984 when the WIAA Scholar Athlete recognition began, every WIAA-member high school has been invited to nominate one boy and one girl for the WIAA Scholar Athlete award.  

 Here are the details on each student-athletes achievements courtesy of the WIAA: 

RODDICK, John; Sparta; Sparta High School—11 varsity letters in cross country, wrestling and track. Team MVP honors in cross country 4 years, wrestling 3 years and track 3 years.

SCHREIER, Betsy; Cashton; Cashton High School—11 varsity letters in cross country, basketball and track. Two-time state champion in track. All conference first team honors in cross country 4 years and basketball 3 years. Team MVP honors in cross country 3 years, basketball 1 year and track 1 year.  #1 in class of 35.

STEVENSON, Alex; De Soto; De Soto High School—8 varsity letters in football, basketball and track. All conference first team honors in football 2 years and basketball 2 years. Team MVP honors in football offense 1 year and football defense 1 year.  #1 in class of 43.
