Dan Litchke scored two goals and Brock Kautz held off a furious third-period rally as the Minnesota Wilderness beat the Coulee Region Chill 5-4 Friday night in Game 3 of the Midwest Division Semi-Finals.
The Coulee Region Chill, which still has a 2-1 series lead, nearly erased a four-goal deficit in the third period, scoring three goals in about four minutes to cut the lead to 5-4 with less than eight minutes to play. Richard Zehnal got the Chill on the board, Nico Luka added a power play goal at the 6:10 mark, Charlie Parker scored less than three minutes later, and Adam Lovick scored at 11:23.
But Kautz and the Wilderness would hang on from there, avoiding a sweep at Green Island Ice Arena.
The Wilderness built a 2-0 lead after the opening period as Brett Heikkila and Litchke scored goals. The visitors would tally two more in the second period, this time with Michael Covach and Litchke beating Adam Carlson, who was later ejected from the game in the second period.
After Zehnal scored to make it 4-1, Tyler Cline beat reserve netminder Jimmy Thomas to make it 5-1.
Game 4 of the series is Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Green Island Ice Arena.
