COPY-Drive to undo Sunday booze ban fails again, in tighter vote

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - An effort to scrap Minnesota's long-standing ban on Sunday liquor sales has failed again in the House, but opponents of the ban came much closer than two years ago.

The state House rejected a repeal by a 75-57 vote. But three dozen more lawmakers came out for allowing Sunday sales.

The vote was also closer in the Senate this year, though the repeal failed there as well.

Minnesota is one of just 12 states that still ban Sunday sales. Proponents of the ban say a seventh day of sales wouldn't bring extra business to liquor stores.

A broader liquor bill passed the House 127-4 Tuesday afternoon. It would allow craft brewers to sell 64-ounce growlers of beer on Sundays and let bars sell booze at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
