COPY-DNR reminds hunters electronic registration begins this fall
MADISON (AP) -- Wisconsin wildlife officials are reminding deer and bear hunters that electronic registration will be the rule statewide starting this fall.
The Department of Natural Resources implemented a limited electronic registration pilot program last year. This year all hunters across the state will have to register their kills through gamereg.wi.gov or call the registration system at 1-800-GAME-REG by 5 p.m. the day after the kill.
Critics have contended the switch will mean the end of Wisconsin's traditional registration stations at taverns, gas stations and restaurants. DNR officials are stressing, though, that any business can serve as an electronic registration station by providing a phone or computer to hunters.
