UPDATE: Arrest made in death of woman in Black River Falls

An arrest is made in the death of a Black River Falls woman found dead in a dog park Sunday morning.

Jackson County Sheriff Duane Waldera said that the body of 30-year-old Jacinda J. Muir, was found by a person visiting the park who called 911 a few minutes before 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning. 

Sheriff Waldera said that based on evidence at the scene and an autopsy done Monday in Madison, the manner of Muir's death is classified as a homicide.

How Muir died isn't being released at this point based on pending autopsy results.

Based on information gathered from the investigation, a 23-year-old Black River Falls man, John B. Cook, was taken into custody in connection with the crime. There was no information released on specific charges faced by Cook.

Sheriff Waldera did ask for the public's help with the case. Anyone with information is asked to call the Jackson County Sheriff's Office at 715-284-5357.   

Authorities believe this was an isolated incident.

UPDATE: The Jackson County Sheriff's Department suspects foul play in the death of a woman found in a pet park Sunday morning.

"In this situation, there was evidence at the scene and observations made that this just did not look like a natural death," Duane Waldera, Jackson County Sheriff, said. "Things around the area did not look like an individual just found in the woods."

Sheriff Waldera said the department has gathered enough information about involved parties and potential witnesses to identify a person of interest.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, according to Waldera. Results are expected sometime this week,

An investigation continues into what the Jackson County Sheriff said is a suspicious death Sunday morning in Black River Falls.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office got a 911 emergency call shortly before 11:00 a.m. regarding an unconscious and unresponsive person at an area known as the Dog Park at W10236 Vaudreuil Road in Black River Falls. 

When rescue workers and authorities arrived, they discovered that the person was dead. Jackson County Sheriff Duane Waldera said in a statement released Sunday night that based on their initial observations, they considered the death suspicious in nature.

Sheriff Waldera said that this is an isolated incident and there is no concern for public safety.

He said that witnesses and other people involved in the case are being interviewed to determine what occurred at the park area.

Sheriff Waldera said that the identity of the victim won't be released until positive identification and family notification are made. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday in Madison.

The department was assisted by the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation and the Wisconsin State Crime Lab.
