APPLETON, Wis. (WXOW) Giving up 15 hits and committing 4 errors is usually not a recipe for success.
It wasn't for the UW-La Crosse baseball team Tuesday night.
They dropped the opener of a best of three series with SUNY-Cortland 11-3 at Fox Cities Stadium.
UW-L needs to beat the Red Dragons twice Wednesday to claim the Div. III World Series Championship.
The Eagles fell behind quickly, giving up five runs in the first two innings.
Only one of those runs was earned.
Shane Adler went the distance on the mound for the Eagles giving up all 11 runs (7 earned).
Travis Buxton-Vertegen had three hits and one run batted in to lead the Eagles offensively.
UW-L cut it to 5-3 in the 7th before SUNY-Cortland scored three in the 7th and three more in the 8th to put it away.
Same two teams meet Wednesday at 11 AM in Appleton.
