Westby hoping to navigate tough regional

COON VALLEY, Wis. (WXOW) -  WIAA baseball regionals kick off Tuesday, although it will be another day of rest for most of the state's top-seeded teams.

That includes Coulee Conference co-champ Westby.

The Norsemen enter the post-season with a 21-4 record.

That's after they lost the first two games of the season.

They've been on fire since and had a stretch of 15 straight wins at one point.

Plenty of challenges await, including a possible re-match with Aquinas later this week.

"I just think we needed to get some experience. We're a young team. We graduated a lot of guys last year. So, really, it just came down to getting some time outside, just getting our feet on the ground and making it all happen," said pitcher Ross Withington.

"We talked a lot about being consistent and that's one thing we've been able to do for the most part this year. But now you have to take it to the next level. Tournament time you can't have that off day," said head coach John Hamilton.

Westby is ranked 6th in the state in Division 3.

Aquinas, which is in the same regional, is now ranked 2nd. They could meet Friday.

It's a regional that also includes 5th-ranked Neillsville and 9th-ranked Riverdale.
