MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WXOW) Another La Crosse Central graduate will get a shot at the big leagues and with his home state team, no less. Mitch Ghelfi was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday.
Ghelfi was taken in the 28th round of baseball's amateur draft. The 2011 Central graduate just completed his junior year at UW-Milwaukee where he hit .356 in 47 games with 2 home runs and 35 runs batted in. "Definitely, a little bit of relief and a lot of excitement. It was a little more special when I found out it was the Brewers that had taken me. I've always watched the Brewers games. Everyone in my family is a fan of baseball. It was something we did growing up. The Brewers were always on the television. It's exciting to know the Brewers are going to give me an opportunity and I'd be able to wear a Brewers jersey," Ghelfi said.
Mitch's brother Drew was also drafted by the Brewers a couple of years ago, but was let go by the organization last summer.
