Aquinas sets bar high; hopes to finish season on top

Posted: Updated:

Aquinas will make it's return to the state baseball tournament for first time since 2010.

They'll take on Marathon Wednesday afternoon in Appleton.

The Blugolds were forced to go indoors Monday for final preparations.

Aquinas breezed through the MVC undefeated and didn't allow a run in their four playoff games.

The bar was set high before the season but the Blugolds know there's still work to do.

"I just know it's been a goal of ours since we got in school. Definitely wanted to bring back the winning tradition. I think we've done that and we're just striving to reach more goals," said senior Rudy Rott.

"We have kids fill out goal sheets at the beginning of the year and I think every one of them had Appleton as one of our goals, to win a state title. I think every kid in the state of Wisconsin starts the season wanting that as a goal. We're just fortunate we get another day to play and a chance to achieve that goal," said head coach Scott Bagniefski.

Alex Schulte will be the starting pitcher Wednesday when they face Marathon.

First pitch set for 4 PM at Fox Cities Stadium.
