Blugolds ready to get their kicks at State

The Aquinas girls will add to their list of state tournament appearances when they make their fifth trip to State on Thursday.

The Blugolds take on New Holstein in a Division 4 semifinal.

No doubt defense was a big emphasis.

Aquinas has absolutely stone-walled their opponents.

They've given up just four goals all season, easily the best in the Division 4 field.

"I feel like a big part of it is our defense and their ability to pass. It really opens up the field. Instead of playing just the seven offensive players, we can have all of our players be in on the play. We can really possess the ball and keep the other team on their back foot. That way they get tired and we don't get as tired," said sophomore forward Mikaela Schlesinger.

"There's no denying the strength of our defense. It's deep. We have players who can come in and play any position along the back four. It's Akyah's first year as goalkeeper with the unfortunate injury that Sydney suffered last year. Everyone that's come in has been absolutely outstanding," said head coach James Lockley.

The Blugolds Division 4 semifinal with New Holstein starts at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee.
