West Salem bats silenced in D2 semifinals

APPLETON, Wis. (WXOW)  West Salem batter felt the chill of Nick Winter.

The Milwaukee Lutheran ace held the Panthers to just one hit while scratching out a 1-0 win over West Salem in a WIAA division two semifinal in Appleton Wednesday.

Winter struck out 8 and only allowed 4 base runners.

Ethan Severson had West Salem's only base hit.

Milwaukee Lutheran scored the only run of the game in the 5th inning on a run-scoring single from Christian Gerner.

Adam Klos suffered the tough-luck loss.

He pitched brilliantly as well, allowing just the one run and five hits while striking out 10.

"He had a good fastball.  His off-speed was solid.  He had a good curve ball and threw strikes.  A hell of a pitcher," said Panthers 1st baseman Nick LaFluer.
"We battled the whole game.  He was a good pitcher.  You're not going to get much against him.  You really can't complain with what we did.  He's a good pitcher, there's no doubt about it.  I think he's going to do big things in Milwaukee," said Klos.

"That's what we thought, we thought the team that scored first was going to win tonight.  That's what happened.  Both pitcher were hard to get to.  If we were able to score first I thought Adam would close it for us.  But it didn't happen that way," said West Salem head coach Chuck Ihle.

West Salem finished the season with a 23-5 record.
