Winona State's long time men's basketball coach is leaving the team.
Mike Leaf announced his resignation on Friday according to Winona State's Athletic Director Eric Schoh. Leaf's departure takes effect June 30.
In a statement from the university, assistant coach Zach Malvik, a Holmen native who played for Leaf, will take over management of the team while a nationwide search gets underway.
Leaf was associated with the basketball program for 28 years, the last 17 as head coach. He's only had one losing season in that time.
The team won two Division 2 national championships in 2006 and 2008 with Leaf as coach. The team also set a winning streak of 57 consecutive wins from 2006-2007.
