Tryouts for the upcoming Coulee Region Chill season continued Friday with the focus shifting to position players, but a day earlier, the action inside the glass at Green Island Ice Arena was directed toward filling the skates of Adam Carlson.
Carlson will play for Mercyhurst College this year after putting together an impressive 2014-15 season with the Chill in the North American Hockey League. He went 25-15 with a .930 save percentage, leading the league in minutes played and saves recorded.
Carlson was also named Division Star of the Week and Goalie of the Month on multiple occasions.
Now the attention turns at roughly a dozen players looking to provide leadership between the pipes this season. Chill head coach AJ Degenhardt said the team invited approximately 50 goalies to the team's goalie camp Tuesday through Thursday.
"It will be tough. I don't know that he's a guy that you can necessarily replace on your team, he was a key guy for our team all year long," Degenhardt said. "We got a good goalie that we tendered though that's coming in that's at a Nashville Predators NHL camp right now. We got three good guys that will start the season with us and I think will all be excellent goalies."
The camp runs through Sunday. The first round of cuts were released Friday night.
