In his first week back racing since breaking his hand two months earlier, Steve Bachman held off Nick Clements Saturday night to win the Sportsman Feature at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway.
Bachman took the lead on the fourth lap but had to survive a late caution with five laps remaining. He held off Clements by choosing the inside lane, and took the checkered flag for his first feature win of the season after sitting out the last seven weeks with a broken hand.
Josh Olson, Jake Arneson, and Tony Leis rounded out the top 5.
Steve Carlson won the Late Model feature for his fifth victory of the season. Also the fastest qualifier on then night, Carlson worked his way from 10th and took the lead with 14 laps to go. Ty Majeski finished second, Adam Degenhardt was third, Shawn Pfaff fourth, and Mike Carlson fifth.
In the Thunderstox, Andy Moore held off Bill Schott for the feature win. After post race inspection, Schott was disqualified, so the rest of the top 5 ended up being Jacinda Pfaff, Kyle Lockington, Thomas Farra, and Charles Vian Jr.
There was also a disqualification in the Hornets feature. Patricke Thicke crossed the line first but after he failed post-race inspection, Nate Towner was awarded the win.
The speedway will be back in action Saturday, July 18 during the La Crosse Interstate Fair, with two 20-lap Late Model races.
