Winona native Alec Brown will take his basketball talents to Spain this season.
The former UW-Green Bay star announced on Twitter Tuesday he will join Obradoiro CAB, part of the Liga ACB, the first-tier level men's professional basketball league.
Brown spent the past four years with the Phoenix, earning All-Horizon First Team honors last season. He scored 1,678 points for Green Bay, fifth all-time in team history. He was selected by the Phoenix Suns with the 50th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.
Brown, 23, signed a contract with Obradoiro before the draft allowing him to play in the NBA if given the opportunity, but he separated his shoulder in NBA summer league play last summer, keeping him out of the game for a majority of the next year. Brown joined the Bakersfield Jam, Phoenix's NBA D League affiliate, late in the season, scoring 13 points in a big playoff win in the Western Conference Finals.
Given a second chance at summer league play this year, Brown's playing minutes dwindled in time, and he didn't play at all in two of the final three games.
Obradoiro went 15-19 last season and missed the playoffs for the third time in four years. The team is based in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia in northwestern Spain.
