Clay Matthews is getting a refresher course at Green Bay Packers training camp that has nothing to do with rushing the quarterback.
The linebacker expects major minutes again playing on the inside of the Packers defense.
Now, Matthews gets to go through a full training camp to help pick up the nuances of a position that he only started playing in the middle of last season. Matthews added athleticism to the middle when the Packers needed to shore up against the run.
Matthews said the pass-rushing opportunities will still be there. Last year 8 1/2 of his 11 sacks on the year came after he started playing more inside in Week 10.
Coach Mike McCarthy said Friday that he plans to have Matthews practice on the outside every third day.
