The sights and sounds of youth basketball are filling the La Crosse Center.
And if it's early August, it must mean the Coach Z Hoop Camp is back.
Roughly 170 kids ages 5 to 14 are participating in the 19th annual Coach Z Hoop Camp, led by Washington Wizards assistant coach Don Zierden.
Many area basketball fans remember Zierden as a former coach with the La Crosse Catbirds and Bobcats from the old CBA days. He keeps coming back preaching his basketball gospel.
"We tell each coach at the start of camp, please touch somebody's life that you work with this week. That's really important to us. Now that I'm older, just watching the self esteem of the young players of the young players coming up, that's a very important thing. Confidence is a big thing in the game of basketball. So we just really try to raise their confidence level personally and then sports-wise in basketball," Zierden said.
The camp continues through this Thursday and will return for a 20th year next year.
