Caledonia coaches, teachers and athletes are getting some words of wisdom from an Iowa wrestling legend Thursday evening.
Dan Gable was in Caledonia to share his experiences.
The former Iowa wrestling coach and Olympic champion talked about making kids better on and off their field of play.
Gable's career as a wrestler took him from a prep star to Iowa State to the Olympics, where he won a gold medal. He then became the University of Iowa's all-time winning coach. Now he serves as a motivational speaker, drawing on those experiences.
"The guy, he did it all. Whether it was as an athlete, coach, or as a person they just don't come any better than Dan Gable in our sport," said Caledonia school board member Spencer Yohe, who helped organize the event.
"The discipline of a total life, not just how good they are in their sport, but how good they are in the academic room, how good they are with social, the people in the community, how good they are with their family. I think that's the key for me to having what's called excellence," Gable said.
