The countdown to kickoff is creeping closer for most area prep football teams, which begin their seasons on Friday.
One of the more competitive camps in the area has to be the one at Luther. There's plenty of jobs to be won.
The Knights enter the season having to replace 19 starters.
The good news is that Luther has a strong junior class, which performed well on the JV level last year. But that group will have to step up soon if the Knights are going to improve on a 3-6 season.
"Growing a lot, especially early, will be key. You jump into a varsity season, first four games are non-conference. Two of them are against teams from the SWC. You know they have to step up. The expectations you put on them are a little higher than in previous years," said head coach Jason Hagedorn.
"There's a lot of open positions and they know coming in that they have a great shot at coming and taking over those spots. Some of the fastest guys on our team are those guys (juniors). They coming in hitting hard and eager to go. We're going to bound together along with the underclassman and make a good, strong team top to bottom," said quarterback Jeremy Fluegge.
The Knight open the season at Blair-Taylor.
