Fall is quickly approaching, which means Oktoberfest in La Crosse is just over a month away.
Tomorrow night the first member of the 2015 Oktoberfest Royal Family will be crowned at the Miss La Crosse/Oktoberfest Scholarship Pageant taking place at Viterbo University.
Eight woman will be vying for the chance to become Miss La Crosse/Oktoberfest 2015 and represent the La Crosse area at the Miss Wisconsin pageant in June, 2016.
The contestants will undergo a private, ten minute interview with a judging panel. In addition, contestants will showcase their lifestyle and fitness, talents, and poise on stage through swimsuit, talent, and evening gown phases of competition. Talents that will be performed at the fine arts center include singing, dance, baton twirling, flute, oboe, piano, and a monologue.
Co-Directors, Lisa Horman and Amy Ryan said the event is more than a beauty pageant.
"I have never seen girls in any other capacity gain the life skills that they've gained by participating in the Miss America Organization. The interview skills alone will carry them throughout their life," said Horman.
"Very transferable, also it's scholarship dollars. Our program alone has $19,000 in scholarships available on Saturday," said Ryan.
The show begins at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, August 22. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at the Viterbo University box office for $15 ahead of time and $20 Saturday.
