The Green Bay Packers will meet the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday in preseason action. Aaron Rodgers played 33 snaps in the Packers' opener against New England, matching his total from the entire 2014 preseason.
Current fourth-string quarterback Matt Blanchard hopes Rodgers will see more rest Sunday so he can have his chance to prove he's worthy of a roster spot. The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater product has played well in training camp so far, but so has Scott Tolzien and draft pick Brett Hundley.
Beating one, or both, of those players will be tough, but it's something Blanchard is used to after stints with the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers. While he's aware of what's at stake, he doesn't let it bother him on the field.
"I don't go out there and perform with that in the back of my mind by any means, or do I show up to work with those thoughts in my mind," Blanchard said. "I want to be a good teammate number 1... I've been fortunate enough to have a little bit of experience so I can help these young guys out, stay calm during these games. That's all I'm really focusing on, and playing good football."
Kickoff is at 12 p.m. Sunday. Coverage on WXOW News 19 begins at 11:30 a.m.
