A $1 million dollars cash bond was set Monday afternoon for the suspect in Friday's fatal shooting.
Court Commissioner Marvin Davis set the bail during Deshawn Randall's court appearance in La Crosse County Circuit Court.
District Attorney Tim Gruenke asked for the high cash bail given the seriousness of the first degree homicide charge.
"When arrested he denied being present at the shooting scene and indicated he would be out the next day and showed no real regard for the situation," Gruenke said.
Gruenke also said Randall is considered a suspect in a string of five shootings last weekend.
The case was continued until Thursday afternoon for Gruenke to finish compiling reports and preparing the criminal complaint against Randall.
Mayor Tim Kabat said he is willing to work proactively with city council to help stop the violence plaguing neighborhoods the last couple of weeks.
"If it means we've got to work more closely with other agencies, or neighborhood groups or residents, whatever the case may be,that's what we need to be doing," Kabat said.
City councilman Fran Formonek, who represents the district where the shooting took place, agrees.
"Are there reasons for us to bring more people on board? Is that going to make a difference? It's really an important thing that the council has to look at, especially during the budget time," he said.
