LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) It will be a rare Friday night opener for the UW-La Crosse football team.
They'll take on Luther College at Harring Stadium.
It's year five for head coach Joel Dettwiler.
The Eagles are coming off a 3-7 season from a year ago and picked to finish 5th in the conference this season.
But a non-conference win to open the season would give the team some serious momentum.
Despite some training camp injuries Dettwiler likes what he sees from his team.
"I think that's one of the more important things when it comes right down to it is when you have injuries guys step up, you gain depth, and when those guys come back you're in great shape. I think defensively we're a little banged up. Offensively, I think our kids did a great job and we're ready to roll," Dettwiler said.
The Eagles are 2-2 in season openers under Dettwiler.
